The Monkees' Mike Nesmith and Micky Dolenz will tour Australia next June, performing all their hits with The Monkees spanning more than 50 years.
Entitled 'The Monkees Present: The Mike And Micky Show', this two-hour, feel-good pop extravaganza will be the first time Mike has appeared in Australia since the release of his 1977 album 'Live At The Palais' recorded in Melbourne.
This show is the latest chapter in the saga of Monkees-mania, which began in 1965 when four young guys were cast in a television show about a struggling rock band that was inspired by the Beatles' 'A Hard Day's Night'.
Like the Beatles, The Monkees enjoy a legacy of music and film that still sits deep within the hearts of fans some 50 years after the fact.
After the death of Davy Jones in 2012, the remaining Monkees reunited for a series of concerts so well-received that Monkees-mania seemed set for a nostalgic return.
"I love being on stage with Micky,” Mike says.
“We’ve been collaborating for over 50 years, so it’s hard to believe it’s never been just the two of us. I’m excited to dust off some tunes that I haven’t played for a long time too. These are going to be some fun shows.”
"Right from the get-go, I admired Mike's songs,” Micky adds.
“When we used to get together around the campfire to sing in the early days, we were always doing his songs. We always had such a great a vocal blend; he was the one who encouraged me to write songs of my own. I've always been a big fan and now we finally get to do the Mike And Micky show that we riffed on back when we were shooting 'The Monkees'."
The Monkees wind up 2018 with the release of 'Christmas Party', their first-ever holiday album that features newly-recorded versions of classic Christmas songs including 'Silver Bells', 'The Christmas Song' and 'Wonderful Christmastime', along with new songs written for the band.
