Almost a decade since their last studio album, Australian rock icons The Living End have a new record on the way alongside a national tour.
'I Only Trust Rock N Roll' will feature 11 new songs, including the singles 'Strange Place' and 'Alfie' plus the title track that dropped this week."Cat's out the bag! Our new album 'I Only Trust Rock N Roll is coming out on Sept 26 [pre-order it] and what better way to celebrate than to play some big ol' rock shows?! I think you know what to do. . . 🔥!"
The tour will visit Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Fremantle throughout November, before a tour finale in Sydney at the famed Opera House Forecourt. These shows will be performed in two parts.
The first set will feature material from the new album plus a selection of the band's biggest hits, like 'White Noise', 'Roll On', and 'Who's Gonna Save Us'. The second set will see the lads take it all the way back old-school, with a complete performance of their 1998 self-titled debut album including their iconic numbers 'All Torn Down' and 'Prisoner Of Society'.
"The best gigs are when we come off completely rooted. We leave nothing behind," drummer Andy Strachan says. Double bassist Scott Owen agrees. "We've been through a lot together, and we've learned when to get out of each other's way.
"At the end of the day, it's about three guys, plugged in, going for it. No tricks. Songs that hit hard and mean something."
With some of the album's songwriting occurring while Chris Cheney was living in America during the pandemic, George Floyd's murder, and the ensuring nationwide riots, the band didn't need to look far inspiration.
"We did not want to make a big, over-the-top record with a hundred parts. We've made those records," shares Cheney. "This one had to sound like a slick machine. Trim the fat.
"Yeah, there are those harmonies and extra guitar bits, but a big part of the writing was knowing what a song didn't need."
Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 25 July.
