The Holidays are one of those indie bands that attract a relatively small yet extremely loyal and dedicated fan base.

While the dancefloor was perhaps only half full, the Alhambra Lounge rocked like it was at full capacity as the crowd packed in around the tiny stage to cheer on the Sydney group.

Starting with a performance from Thief, the electro-pop brainchild of fellow Sydney songwriter PJ Wolf, The Holidays launched straight into their set with ‘All Time High’ from their sophomore album, ‘Real Feel’. The short but lively set included tracks from ‘Real Feel’ such as ‘Tongue Talk’ and ‘Voices Drifting’ as well as some older favourites like ‘Moonlight Hours’ from their debut album.

No matter what they played, the crowd lapped it up, singing every word and moshing so hard they knocked over drinks onstage, almost drenching bass player Alex Kortt’s pedal board.

Accompanied by live congas, The Holidays brought to life their funky blend of jungle-style drum beats, driving guitar riffs and spacey synthesizer, at one point descending into a psychedelic instrumental ‘freak out’.

The Holidays are strong performers and well worth catching as they make their way around the country.
