The Griswolds Plan To Walk The Moon

The Griswolds
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

With The Griswolds American tour still fresh in their memories, the band have already committed to a run of national dates next month with Ohio natives, Walk The Moon.

The Griswolds lead singer Chris Whitehall believes the Walk The Moon guys are the best friends any band could have on tour. "We did a two-month tour with them earlier this year around America and the bond between us became very strong. We can't wait to show them our country this time. It should be called The Griswolds and Walk The Moon's Friendship Tour.”

With their debut album, 'Be Impressive', elevating the group's fame level to uncharted heights, The Griswolds have found themselves touring more. “Doing tours is long and you shouldn't do it if you don't love it,” Chris says.

“Luckily for us we love every second of it, every up and down. We have the passion and we try to have a lot of fun on the road. The guys make it into a great time, no matter what.”

When the band supported The Kooks' Australian tour earlier this year it was a surreal experience, but they also learned a few tricks. “The Kooks were very professional in how they toured. They would tour for two weeks, then go back home to see their families for two weeks, no matter what. That's the level of professionalism I want to be at in the future,” Chris enthuses.

When The Griswolds toured the US earlier this year, they spent five months on the road without a proper break. “It was extremely tiring. It led to our single 'If You Wanna Stay' because a lot of us were going through issues back home.

“I broke up with my girlfriend at the time, and I said 'if you don't want to be a part of it, don't be. Choose your side because I just want to do this, this is the love of my life. If you don't want to be a part of it then I'm not going to miss you after you choose you don't want to be a part of it.' It was hard, but music is my main focus right now.

“The video is in complete contrast to the song. We ended up having a great time throwing around eggs and champagne while crashing cars into trees.”

Their debut album turned heads and allowed them the opportunities they now have. “We wouldn't be able to do everything we are doing now if it wasn't for local support we were given by local outlets such as scenestr. Well, maybe we could have but it would have been a whole lot harder.

“The writing and recording process of 'Be Impressive' was kind of weird. We wrote many of the songs before we had even formed as an official band, before the name The Griswolds came about.

“When we got signed, a bit more pressure came into the mix and we had two months to finish the album, which became a whole new process.”
