The Grates Tour East Coast In August

The Grates
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard launched 'Scene Magazine' in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative in the mid-naughties. Social media remains a complete mystery to him. He's been spotted at raves, hip hop concerts, Motown revivals, judged battle of the bands, shot video for opening night and natinal awards red carpet, partnered with music industry showcases, comedy festivals and myriad other cultural productions ... and he interviewed Eddie Izzard. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford comma — way too much fun at parties.

The Grates will tour Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in August on the back of their sold-out Splendour In The Grass appearance.

The 'Team Work Makes The Dream Work' east coast tour is the latest chapter in a career that has spanned more than a decade and four celebrated studio albums.

Last year The Grates released their fourth album 'Dream Team'. The Grates have only played a handful of dates since the 2011 ‘Summer’s Breath’ tour which celebrated the release of their third studio album ‘Secret Rituals’. Perhaps understandable when considering band members John and Patience co-run Southside Tea Room [their cafe/ bar in Morningside, Brisbane) as well as being new parents.

Joining them on the road will be friends and special guests Sydney’s Straight Arrows with their reverb-laden, fuzzed-out, punk garage as well as Brisbane post punk/ synth duo Pleasure Symbols.

Patience Hodgson said "It’s been ages since we’ve hit the road & performed live, and we're stoked to be returning with rad legends Straight Arrows, and cold wave creepers Pleasure Symbols. Touring with people that you not only love watching on stage, but love hanging out with off stage, is as good as it gets. If you’re lucky, everyone gets chummy, you become like a little army, or a little family. Owen from Straight Arrows will be joining us on bass & the rest of SA & PS will be joining us side of stage as baby sitters, even though they don’t now it yet!"
