The Grammys To Stage Mass Wedding

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will perform 'Same Love' @ The Grammys
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Dozens of couples will marry on air during today's live broadcast of the Grammy Awards.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will perform 'Same Love' (an anthem for the gay marriage campaign) with Madonna while 34 couples — some gay, some straight — of various ages and races get married. Queen Latifah will officiate the nuptials.

Lewis said the weddings will be "the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing."

Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich, who has a gay daughter, told the New York Times that the weddings are not a gimmick — "We're serious about this," he insisted — but added that the ceremony does not necessarily represent "the views of the academy or the CBS television network".

The event will be a very personal one for Ryan Lewis, whose sister will marry her boyfriend during the ceremony.

"[It's] a night that is already tremendous for me, for the music," Lewis told the Times, "but to have my sister get married and my family there watching it, that makes it a whole other level of amazing."
