With their national tour kicking off tonight in Hobart, The Gooch Palms will soon relocate to the US where they will record album #2, showcase at SXSW as well as tour extensively.
Before they ‘piss-off’ Stateside, we asked the garage-punk duo of Leroy Macqueen and Kat Friend to write to you, Australia, about their impending Yankee adventure.
Dear Australia,
We’ll keep this short. We’re not saying goodbye, just see you later. We still love ya and all that, just need to get our asses out there and see other countries for a while. You’ve been so good to us over the years but you know how it is, gotta grab life by the balls, run with the bulls, dive in head first etc etc.
America will not replace you as our home, it’s just business. We’re just a couple of slick business people with big dreams and nothing to lose. We’ll be thinking of you and your free health care, glorious beaches, good weather and Vegemite on toast with a good coffee start to the day.
Hopefully we remember to keep to the right when driving and not to say ‘reckon’ or ‘heaps’ too much cause no one understands those words over there. I reckon it will probably be heaps hard but we’ll give it a crack. Probably shouldn’t say ‘give it a crack’ either. Let’s just have Skype dates so we can speak in our native tongue once in a while.
Keep the barbie burning and a beer in the fridge, we’ll be seeing you again. Let’s enjoy this time apart though, it can only make our bond stronger. See ya round like a rissole!
