The Foundry Closes Its Doors… But The Brisbane Live Music Venue Will Reopen At A New Location

Brisbane live music venue, The Foundry has been forced to close its doors, bit will re-open at another Fortitude Valley location (November 2020).
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Brisbane live music venue The Foundry has been forced to close its doors; but the brand will live on at a new, to be disclosed Fortitude Valley location.

With the building owners of its current location (228 Wickham St, Fortitude Valley) undertaking a heritage refurbishment project that will see the space revert to its original name, The Prince Consort, The Foundry will pause effective immediate before reopening in November (2020).

It's been five years since the venue's infamous opening that saw Velociraptor christen the stage before the floor caved in.

The Foundry has since hosted the best local and national indie acts as well as a slew of talented internationals. The likes of Dune Rats, The Babe Rainbow, WAAX, DZ Deathrays, Orville Peck, Polish Club, The Delta Riggs and Spacey Jane have treaded The Foundry's floorboards.

To our Foundry Family,

We have news of change.

The Foundry’s time at 228 Wickham has come to an end. The new owners of the building are undertaking a heritage refurbishment and reverting to the hotel’s original name, The Prince Consort (@theprincebris) and introducing some exciting new spaces. While the hotel will always remain a place where music is made and loved, it will no longer be home for The Foundry as a live touring venue.

However, do not fear! Effective immediately, our friends over at Lithium Entertainment have acquired The Foundry brand with good will and will be re-launching the venue, along with its history & integrity, into a new, bigger and better space right here in Fortitude Valley. We anticipate our doors will be open to you come early November, 2020. We cannot wait to share the news with you all, very soon.

The Foundry will be honouring all previous ticket sales and are working tirelessly with promoters to ensure a smooth transition. So far, we have no anticipated changes to current events on sale, with heaps of new content in the pipeline being moved over to the new space. We will be allowing the option to give you, the punters, flexibility to refund tickets, should you not wish to attend upcoming events - via Oztix. However, we are sure you will not be disappointed.

A huge thank you and cheers to five years of incredible memories at 228 Wickham. From our very first launch show with Velociraptor when the floor caved in, to hosting the likes of Dune Rats, The Babe Rainbow, WAAX, DZ Deathrays, Orville Peck, Polish Club, The Delta Riggs, Spacey Jane plus so many more incredible artists from our own backyard, spanning across the globe.

We are so proud of the foundation that you helped establish. Our goal is not only to save & support the jobs of the hundreds of artists, promoters, roadies, bookers, hospitality staff and production crew without whom The Foundry could not exist – but to continue to provide a performance platform supporting as many touring showcases from local, national and international fronts as possible, long into the future.

Stick with us Brisbane, we can't wait to unveil a bigger, better Foundry and a safe, inclusive space for people from all walks of life to congregate and share the love of our beautiful live music culture.

All the best to 228 Wickham as The Prince Consort and friends.

See you soon.

With Love,

El Foundo
