Their hearts are set on a one day kickin’ it on a yacht in the Greek Islands.
But for now The Delta Riggs are talking business with an album due out later in the year and a national tour to attend this month. “Scallywag behaviour… some good times… and some imagery based stuff,” is what punters can expect from the upcoming shows according to lead singer, Elliott Hammond.
“We haven't done a tour for a couple of months now; [I’m looking forward] to hanging out with the guys again because we do live in separate states. So two of us live in Melbourne and two of us live in Sydney, so it’s not like we kind of get to hang out with each other every day, and we're pretty good mates. It's always awesome when we get to go back on tour and spend some time with each other and travel around.”
Hammond is just as excited for the group’s second album, ‘Dipz Zebazios’, which is to be released later this year. “It's like a hip hop, R&B based album but done with a rock and roll band ... It's definitely something that people might not expect from us.
“Sonically there's some fresh stuff going on. I'm just as excited if not more about it than the last record which I was quite proud of. I think people are gonna like it. So for us it's something we wanted to do because we wanted to push ourselves a little bit and I think hopefully now it's a kind of... an album that will transcend genres a little bit in the way that it's not strictly a rock and roll record.”
In the lead-up to the 2014 AFL Premiership season, the AFL used the band’s song, ‘Scratch Flowers’, as part of its promo ad.
“We're pretty big AFL fans so that for us was a pretty cool tip of the hat. It definitely came out of nowhere, so yeah I don't know, we were happy about it. We go to games and stuff — a few of us still live down there; it’s a bit of a recreational kind of pastime of ours.”
