Opening with their classic guitar riffs and moody bass, The Dandy Warhols performed to a packed Tivoli on Saturday night (30th August).
You could have been mistaken thinking it was 1994 all over again, with the foursome not looking like they’d aged a day in their 20-year history (maybe it’s all the superfoods Courtney’s been consuming that have attributed to his rock and roll good looks?).

The gang — comprised of Courtney, Zia, Brent and Pete — are one of the most dynamic rock and roll outfits of the last 20 years, with the group’s career having stood the test of time and resulted in some of the catchiest riffs imaginable.
I’m up to my fourth Dandy gig and I must say they never put on a bad show. Despite this being a long tour involving Europe and the States, the guys were very much in party mode and pumped out the hits including ‘Bohemian Like You’, ‘Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth’ and the crowd favourite ‘Godless’, which by all accounts seemed to put a smile on everyone’s face by the end of the electric trumpet solo.

The lighting was moody, the atmosphere grungy with a dash of hipster and the crowd was absolutely loving the head swings and guitar strums of Mr Taylor Taylor.
My favourite part of the show would have to be the after party, held at the Black Bear Lodge and DJd by none other than DJ Rescue — the artist formerly known as Miss Zia McCabe, who had the faithful amped up to the likes of Michael Jackson and a dash of old school funk for good measure.
Zia, who welcomed fans to the side of her DJ booth, was a riot and a really down to earth chick. My full respect goes out to any band that takes time out of their hectic schedule to meet fans for a cheeky bourbon or two.
Overall, a wonderful gig mixed with an equally brilliant crowd who were head banging till the very last sequence of the uni favourite – ‘Boys Better’.
