The Cult Australia 2024 Tour

The Cult
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

British gothic rockers, post punks The Cult are headed back to Australia.

The band – renowned for blending post punk and hard rock through an experimentalism lens – will be celebrating its 40th anniversary bringing the '8424' tour to Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth in late 2024.

Originally forming in 1983 performing as Death Cult, the Bradford band became The Cult January 1984, soon releasing their debut album 'Dreamtime' that features the cut 'Go West'. The Cult's sophomore record, 1985's 'Love' includes their first mainstream successes, the mega hit 'She Sells Sanctuary' as well as 'Rain'.

Their third record 'Electric' (1987), working with Rick Rubin, continued their success ('Love Removal Machine', 'Lil Devil' and 'Wild Flower') resulting in the band relocating to Los Angeles and embracing a hard rock aesthetic. Their 1989 album 'Sonic Temple' features Fire Woman' as well as 'Edie (Ciao Baby)' and 'Sweet Soul Sister'.

The Cult's most recent studio album is 2022's 'Under The Midnight Sun', their eleventh record, which was produced by Tom Dalgety primarily at Rockfield Studios, where the band had recorded their debut album 'Dreamtime'.

Founding singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy will be joined by longtime drummer John Tempesta alongside recent addition bassist Charlie Jones (Goldfrapp, Page and Plant); the band are currently preparing to tour Europe.

Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 8 July.
