The band is getting back together, that band being The Cruel Sea.
Cult heroes of the Australian scene in the late '80s and throughout the '90s, the group fronted by Tex Perkins (who were last active in the early 2000s aside from the occasional reunion show-tour) will headline concerts in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle and Sydney in December. The run of shows celebrates the 30th anniversary of The Cruel Sea's breakthrough record, 1993's 'The Honeymoon Is Over' an album that won five ARIA Awards and was a fixture in the Top 40 the next two years.
Last together onstage in 2013 supporting Bernard Fanning, The Cruel Sea feature original members Tex Perkins (vocals), Jim Elliott (drums), Ken Gormly (bass) and Dan Rumour (guitar), together with Matt Walker (guitar/ keys) filling in for the much-loved and missed, late James Cruickshank.
"Well, I'm not sure what I've done, but life keeps handing me gifts!" begins Tex Perkins. "Being a musician, the greatest gifts I can get involve people and music, but really, what else is there?
"To play with The Cruel Sea was something I wasn't sure would ever happen again, but believe me it's happening.
"Rehearsals have been powerful, emotional, and joyful! The Cruel Sea have a sound that can't be found anywhere else! I still feel like a guest singer.
"I love that sound and I love the guys that make it! And I can't wait to share this with you all! See you soon, yeah?"
