Two-plus years removed from their last Australian adventure, The Brian Jonestown Massacre return down under in 2026.
The cult psych-drone collective, led by the singular vision of Anton Newcombe, will headline concerts in Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Melbourne, Castlemaine, and Perth next March.
Newcombe will be joined by long-time conspirators Joel Gion and Ricky Maymi, although guitarist Ryan Van Kriedt won't be part of the touring team.
His eight-year tenure with the band ended in infamy after an onstage fight with Anton during their Melbourne concert in 2023 led to the immediate cancellation of the remaining tour dates and Van Kriedt's injection from the band.
Anton remained quiet about the incident until a November 2024 interview with Blunt, where in part he addressed the Melbourne concert saying: "Ultimately, what happens is the buck stops with me. Some people think, 'None of this stuff would happen if you just quit playing music'. I get blamed for everything."
Although they haven't released an album since their 2023 project 'The Future Is Your Past', in April The Brian Jonestown Massacre released the double single 'Makes Me Great' and 'Out Of Body'.
"'Makes Me Great' is a whimsical song rooted heavily in psychedelic folk rock – the way Anton Newcombe does it best," posted the band.
"Side B offers the uptempo 'Out Of Body', a joyous plunge into an experimental shoegaze ode to the '60s, with multiple experiments conducted on an array of instruments."
The Brian Jonestown Massacre have had a busy touring year, with a stack of European dates as well as a Glastonbury performance that wowed the crowd with a career-spanning set that included 'Anemone', 'Pish', 'Vacuum Boots' and 'When Jokers Attack'. They finish off the year with a four-date South American run.
Joining for select dates will be Stockholm's Les Big Byrd, a new discovery who have been opening for BJM on European dates across 2025. They have had critics gushing over their '60s psychedelic harmonies and sonic marriage of psychedelic Krautrock and shoegaze, a treat for soon to be Australian fans.
Tickets on sale from 11am AEST on 4 September.
