The Beautiful Girls Headline Drop In Festival

The Beautiful Girls
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Port Macquarie will host the newly-announced Drop In Festival featuring a line-up that includes The Beautiful Girls.

Promoter Scott Mesiti announced the event will take place in the car park of the popular Irish Pub, Finnians.

"Drop In is a boutique, pop-up music event; the wanderer with no fixed address, has no clear direction and could lob up on your door step at any time.  Drop In has just finished its inaugural event seeing hundreds of people flock to Brisbane’s Redland Bay Hotel last weekend (November 15) and now has its eyes set for Port Macquarie.

“This will be the 4th Finnians Car Park gig we’ve ever done,” says Mesiti. “We love working with the venue but are always very selective with the line-ups we put there… it has to be right and there’s no question about this one!! I’m equally as excited about the slow-cooked menu Brad from Finnians will be putting together, as the line-up.”

Headlining will be Australian roots favourites, The Beautiful Girls. That band kicked it all off in 2002 with a killer debut EP, Morning Sun. The Periscopes track became a certified Triple J radio hit that summer and the Goodtimes EP followed that same year. They released their debut album, Learn Yourself followed by another EP, The Weight Of The World in 2004.

Three more albums succeed, We’re Already Gone (2005), Water (2006) and& Ziggurats (2007).Ziggurats’ main single, I Thought About You, was nominated for Blues & Roots Work of the Year at the 2008 APRA Awards. The album Spooks, released in 2010, peaked at number 18 on the ARIA charts, debuted at number 1 in the Australian Independent Chart and number 7 on the US Billboard Reggae Albums Chart.

Described as ‘a majestic production where stylistic threads run deep’, the collective that comprised The Beautiful Girls, have gone on to chalk up a dozen world tours, travelling to Japan, Europe, Canada, the United States and South America. Fans of Mat’s music span the globe. Drop In Festival will be the band’s first show in Port Macquarie in over two years.

Drop In will also feature live performances from Mar Haze, Lords of Pinball, Josh Sims and a special guest DJ.
