The Basics Are So Hard For You

The Basics
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Having just announced their first tour in over three years, The Basics have lifted the lid on a brand new film clip for their latest single, 'So Hard For You'.

Naturally, the clip features all your favourite Basics — drummer Wally De Backer (aka Gotye, obvs), bassist Kris Shroeder (who recorded his part on location in Kenya while suffering from malaria), and guitarist Tim Heath (who wasn't going to get his own parantheses, until we added this) — as well as cameos from, uh, Harry Nilsson and Frank Sinatra.

Realised by filmmaker Andrew Mortlock, the clip has the old school vinyl flavour The Basics have been known for since 2002.

Earlier this year, the band released 'must-have' set Ingredients and rarities collection Leftovers, prompting rumours of a reunion, which were confirmed with the announcement of a September tour. The response to the tour has been as rapturous as you'd expect, prompting the addition of a third Melbourne show at the Corner Hotel after twice selling out the Northcote Social Club.
