Australian funk-soul masters The Bamboos will tour nationally from late August with a four-date run of shows visiting Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide – their first series of Australian shows in more than three years.
"It's our first Australian national tour since 2018, so we've got some extra special things planned for these shows," the band says."We're looking forward to turning it on for you in a big way, playing all the music from the new album and giving you something that you'll never forget."
The tour news comes just under two months since the band released 'Hard Up', The Bamboos tenth studio album. This year also marks the group's 21st birthday.
"We had always talked about getting out of town and locking ourselves up in an old house somewhere to make a record," the band's founder Lance Ferguson says, "and it just seemed to be the right time to do it.
"Something different happens musically when everyone is together in the same place and in no hurry to go anywhere else; there's a real focus.
"We were recording takes at 3am in the morning, experimenting with whole different approaches to songs, the horn section took over an empty barn to come up with their parts – all of the things you can imagine."
The Bamboos have also released a music video for 'Hard Up' album track 'If Not Now (Then When)' featuring Durand Jones.
"When The Bamboos sent a message my way that they would like to collaborate," Jones says, "I chose the tune that sounded the least like anything The Indications [Durand's band] would do.
"It was a challenge for me, but I think it came out with a gospel, soul, and pop vibe that makes me smile every time I hear it."
