Burdened by distraction, tours and travel, Pierce The Veil insist the jolted creative process in producing 'Misadventures' surprisingly inspired most of their songwriting.
The album was released mid-May, despite constant breaks between recording and deadlines being repeatedly pushed back. “Some of the things that happened, like the breaks we had to take from the studio because of pre-planned tours, ended up being pretty helpful, because we were able to find inspiration from the bands that we were touring with, and getting back on the road, and seeing our fans,” lead guitarist Tony Perry explains.
“When we went back to the studio, the ideas and songs came together a lot easier. All of us are fans of bands that actually sound like a band, not like a singer with a backing track, so we worked hard to make the music sound real, to give every band member his moment to shine.”
'Misadventures' received a massive response from fans, topping Billboard's Alternative Rock, Hard Rock and Independent Charts and reaching #12 on the Australian ARIA Chart. “We did a 'Misadventures' tour in the US where we played the record front to back in order of how it is on the CD, and we were kind of nervous going into it because we weren't sure how our fans would react,” Tony admits.
“But at the very first show, the album had only been out for a week, and already most of the crowd was singing every word.”
Pierce The Veil are travelling to Australia this month for a national tour. Tony doesn't hide his excitement in returning down under, declaring Australia as his favourite country to perform in, other than the US. “It reminds me of home in Southern California!” he exclaims. “Across Australia, everywhere we go, the people are always so nice and relaxed and friendly.”
Two sell-out shows recently triggered the addition of a third date in Melbourne. Tony admits the overwhelming response shocked the entire band. Pierce The Veil boast an equally powerful online presence, with over 4.5 million Twitter and Instagram followers, and 5.5 million Facebook 'likes'. “When we started our social media, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, it was honestly us just goofing around and taking pictures of whatever,” he laughs.
“Somehow people latched onto it, even though we never really set out to do anything like that: it just kind of came to us.”
According to Tony, the band will be flat out with back-to-back tours until January next year. Silverstein, Beartooth and Storm The Sky are playing support during their upcoming Australian circuit. “We've actually toured with Beartooth before, and we were all just talking about the fact that their lead singer, Caleb, was with us during our first ever Australian tour, back when he sung for Attack Attack,” Tony says.
“The main plan now is to keep touring and touring, and to keep spreading the word on our record.”
