Canadian roots rocker Terra Lightfoot will be undertaking her maiden Australian tour this November, courtesy of our very own William Crighton.
Terra and her band will be performing alongside William as part of his ‘Stand On The Side Of Love’ tour featuring songs from his forthcoming album due out next year. “I am so excited,” Terra says, “and not only is it my first tour, but I’ve never visited Australia nor have any of the members of my band, so we’re all freaking out.
“I saw William Crighton in Toronto before I knew anything about this tour or anything about him. I watched him at Canadian Music Week, I guess it was about a year ago now, and he was amazing and he did a really good job with the crowd.
"So if his work here [in Canada] is any indication of how he’s received at home I think it’s going to be a great tour.”

With Terra’s soul-drenched roots and William’s folk-rock the pair seems a match made in musical heaven, offering an eclectic performance for the ‘Stand On the Side Of Love’ tour. “We’re definitely a rock band but we have a softer side and we also like soul music, like gospel music,” Terra says.
“I think between me and William it’s going to be a really cool mix of everything, because I know he plays some lighter stuff too.”
Terra is already a lauded live performer in her home country and released her third studio album, ‘New Mistakes’, earlier in October, a record she says emphasises the band’s chemistry as a live unit. “We worked with two producers who we recorded our last album with and this is more of a band record.
“So we really got together as a band and we worked the songs to the bone before we went in to the studio. So what you hear is us playing the songs live; we did some overdubs but it’s very much a live effort of us playing and doing our thing. We wanted something natural and something cool, and I think we pulled it off.”
The first tour stop for Terra and William will be at Australian Music Week in Sydney and Terra is particularly looking forward to exploring Sydney and discovering more about Australian music culture. “I think it’s going to be amazing,” she says.
“Everybody that I know in Canada who has been to Australia and Sydney has said crazy things about the city. So beyond the conference I’m just excited to see the city, see some great bands and get to know a little about Australian music culture.
"One person I really like there is Mia Dyson, so I’m excited to try and find her."

While at the conference, Terra will also be trying to make connections within the industry here in order to secure future Australian tours for her band. “I’d love nothing more than to come back as soon as I can so I’ll be meeting as many people as I can for sure,” she says.
“I understand the industry is really cool in Australia. I’ve met lots of interesting people here and in The States from Australia and the industry, and I can’t wait to hang out with them again.”
