Tent Pole: A Musical Jamboree 2023 Line-up

Pavement headline the inaugural Tent Pole music festival in Geelong.
Update - 30 November, 2022: Tent Pole have added more acts to their 2023 line-up, with Texan blues alt-country singer-songwriter Charley Crockett and his band, US garage punk rockers Black Lips, Melbourne punk trio legends Mod Con, power pop rockers The Prize and Bellarine-based psychedelic dream pop, prog rockers Sirens joining the bill.

A new music festival that promotes 'a no-holds-barred attack on your aural senses', Tent Pole: A Musical Jamboree is a one-day event offering some of the finest indie bands (established and emerging) that's set to land in Geelong next March.

One of the most influential indie bands of their time, US icons Pavement will headline Tent Pole with a line-up featuring Stephen Malkmus, Scott 'Spiral Stairs' Kannberg, Mark Ibold, Bob Nastanovich and Steve West; Pavement last toured Australia in 2010.

Local rock & roll royalty Spiderbait will also join Tent Pole fresh from their own recent headline run of shows in support of their compilation album 'Sounds In The Key Of J', which compiles every Spiderbait song that Janet English sings lead on.

Geelong legends Magic Dirt will also be part of the action alongside San Diego fuzz rockers The Schizophonics and emerging Melbourne indie rock, jangle pop band Floodlights. NT rockers Black Rock Band and punk trio CLAMM round out the first artist announcement with more acts to follow.

Tent Pole is more than just a musical experience, with event organisers promising a 'cross-generational, neo-nostalgic celebration and gathering for like-minded music, art and culture lovers; the weird, the wonderful, the outsiders and everyone in between'.

Tent Pole is the first collaboration between Roundhouse Entertainment (the team behind a day on the green), Love Police (led by Brian 'BT' Taranto, promoter of Out On The Weekend & Boogie), and Johann Ponniah, founder of I OH YOU.

"After 21 years and nearly 500 shows, it's exciting to launch a new event to complement the a day on the green experience," Roundhouse Entertainment Director Michael Newton says.

"It's been fantastic to curate a smaller boutique event with BT and Johann. The Zoom calls have been fun so far. Mt Duneed Estate is a great site, and with more bands to come we look forward to firmly stamping Tent Pole as a mainstay on the Victorian festival calendar for many years to come."

Adds BT of Love Police: "Let's go back to those gold soundz with Pavement on the Surf Coast and a bunch of other sweet acts we wanna see.

"That sounds pretty good. Let's call it Tent Pole and deliver a sweet event with a lovin' team who all bring good sh.t to the scene. See ya in March."

Upon reading the first draft of this press release, Johann stated: ". . . well, how do you follow that?! See ya at the Top Paddock!"
