Taylor Swift Fans The Biggest Winners Of triple j’s Requestival

triple j have released the stats related to their inaugural Requestival.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

After a massive week, triple j have collated the stats from Requestival and the total requests number a staggering 105,430 (38,000 via txt msg) with almost 27,000 downloads of the triple j app.

Five years ago, Taylor Swift was controversially disqualified from the Hottest 100 2015; #Tay4Hottest100 believers finally got their revenge, with ‘Shake It Off’ receiving the most reactions on the triple j app (21,298 reacts with 52.6 per cent vomit emojis).

John Williams’ ‘Star Wars’ musical theme ‘Duel Of The Fates’ received 16,682 reacts (85 per cent hearts emoji) and was the most requested song with 580 requests.

While Crazy Frog’s 2005 (has it really been 15 years and 2.1 billion streams on YouTube) reworking of the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ theme ‘Axel F’ copped 14,884 reacts with only 39.8 per cent vomit emojis – c’mon people!

Aside from Ms Swift featuring on triple j’s airwaves, other acts you never thought you’d hear on the national youth broadcaster included Harry Styles, Kylie, Britney Spears, JT and Cardi B.

TV themes were also a major attraction with listeners requesting everything from ‘Game Of Thrones’ to ‘Grand Designs’ (you wouldn’t of tipped that from a youthful audience). Channel 9’s iconic ‘Wide World Of Sports’ theme proved we love our sports as much as our music, the track was the second most requested song all week with nearly 380 requests.

Musicals were also popular, with songs from ‘Wicked’ and ‘Chicago’ garnering air time. Even John Cena’s entrance music and Scatman John’s ‘Scatman (ski-ba-bop-ba-dop-bop)’ were played.
