With a playful, smooth yet fat beat Australian rapper Tasman Keith has dropped a surprise single, '5FT FREESTYLE', which showcases a new side to the Gumbaynggirr man's artistry.
The track harks back to hip hop's old-school tradition of lyrical battles, emcees spitting verbal barbs, questioning the dexterity, wit, and overall ability of other rappers – "they don't make none like me," spits Keith."'5FT FREESTYLE' is a healthy ego, but an ego nonetheless," begins the 'Billy Bad Again' and 'ONE' artist.
"Not only is it my moment to throw the line and test the waters but it is also an introduction to my direct, strong, and abrasive personality in the form of a beaten-up character who is rough around the edges, cheeky, and slightly playful.
"This character is a part of a duality of personas which is built from my personal experiences, past and current. It is an entirely new direction in my artistry, which I am excited to reveal in due time."
Filmed in his home town Bowraville, Tasman has teamed with director Zain Ayub and Kwame (who produces and engineers) to create a music video for '5FT FREESTYLE'.
In March, Tasman Keith will play a trio of east-coast shows landing in Naarm, Eora and Meanjin. Tickets are on sale.
