Set to open in late October, Mary's Group have revealed they've taken over the old Max Watts/ Hi-Fi commercial space at the newly energised Entertainment Quarter in Sydney opposite the iconic Hordern Pavilion.
Rebranded as Liberty Hall, the 1,200-person capacity dedicated live music venue will be home to 'great art, opening the doors and stage to local, domestic and international touring artists with an anything goes approach and an elevated audience experience'."Liberty Hall takes its lead from the great venues of the world whose vision is to provide space for artists to explore their full potential," Mary's Co-Owner Jake Smyth says.
"We see art as so deeply vital to the health of society. We hope we can create a home for free expression, of shared celebration and of deep connection.
"Liberty Hall will be a home for intimate moments and f...ing face-tearing partying, for challenging conversations and shared experiences."
Mary's Group had formerly run the live music operations at Lansdowne Hotel until earlier this year.
Adds Mary's Co-Owner Kenny Graham: "The number of words we encounter on a day-to-day basis is possibly at an all-time high.
"Opinions, take downs, promises, encouragement, they are ubiquitous but often lacking in fortitude.
"Taking action is what creates change and helps build a positive future and that's what we look to embrace. We are humbled at another opportunity to take the reins of yet another fallen live music venue and pour energy and hard work into creating an exciting creative space for Sydney's arts community."
Mary's opened in a back street of Newtown in 2013, slinging burgers and throwing shots of Jack Daniels down thirsty throats.
Over the past nine years, it has grown into a wild and wonderful and intensely individual collection of venues that champion food, booze, music and art. From their world-famous Mary's Burger, to their proudly pokie-free Unicorn Hotel, and to the iconic Underground, Mary's is a celebration of life through liberty, love, art and culture.
