SXSW Sydney Music Festival Adds More Than 60 Acts To 2024 Line-Up

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

SXSW Sydney will present global and local talent throughout its music programme at this year’s iteration in October.

The artists announced so far hail from here in Australia, as well as Colombia, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan and the UK.

The music programme has been curated by the SXSW Sydney programming team, Reg Harris and Ruby Miles, from more than 1,200 submissions.

Highlights include the first Indonesian band to ever play Glastonbury – Voice Of Baceprot – Tamaki Makaurau all-stars Phoebe Rings; Taiwan-based experimental pop group I’mdifficult; Philippines indie darling Clara Benin; dynamic surf-rock band The Grogans; Obongjayar-cosigned East London rapper JESHI; NSW indie favourites The Buoys; underground dance music hero Mincy; Hatchie bandmate and cult shoe gaze talent RINSE; central desert rockers and KISS tour mates Mulga Bore Hard Rock; bedroom pop act ixaras; and four-piece Bangkok post-rock outfit, Death Of Heather.

These artists and more join the likes of multi-hyphenate artist and ‘Heartbreak High’ star Ayesha Madon, triple j Unearthed High alumnus Nick Ward; Colombian psych-rock trio BALTHVS; 21-year-old Def Jam signee SAHXL; rising Marranunggu rapper brothers, J-MILLA & Yung Milla and evocative, genre-defying neo-classical instrumentalist, Joel Sunny.

Audiences can look forward to seeing these exciting, up-and-coming acts take over iconic venues and music institutions on more than 25 stages in Chippendale and surrounds, this October.

Last year’s festival saw sets from burgeoning global superstars like Otoboke Beaver (JP), redveil (USA), Isyana Sarasvati (IDN), FCUKERS (USA), Connie Constance (UK) and Flyana Boss(USA). It also featured 300 performances from rising local acts.

SXSW Sydney is an event designed for creative industries. In addition to showcases, it brings a wave of creativity and entertainment to the Harbour City, and all music industry badge holders get primary access to music-focused conference programming.

Tickets are on sale now.

SXSW Sydney 2024 is on from 14-20 October.
