A new, three-day music festival launching as part of Sydney Festival, to be staged in the heart of the city Summerground promises a diverse offering of sounds; from deep soul and dirty funk, alt pop and indie rock, to plenty of beats, bleeps and horn sections.
Set to take over Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour 5-7 January, the Friday instalment will be headlined by funk hip hop artist Cimafunk, dubbed the 'James Brown of Cuba', joined by his Havana all-stars. American Grammy winner Fantastic Negrito will also take to the stage fusing rock, roots and funk together.Electro-pop duo Electric Fields, APY Lands rap group on-the-rise DEM MOB and Tanzanian-Australian singer-songwriter Beckah Amani round out the Friday line-up.
Saturday will witness soul, alt country, blues-rock charmers The Teskey Brothers in the headline slot, joined by Trinidad's Queen Omega and her band The Royal Souls, Arnhem Land superstars King Stingray, Brisbane rockers Full Flower Moon Band and New York-based Sydneysider Danté Knows.
West London acid jazz pioneers, The Brand New Heavies ('You Are The Universe', 'Midnight At The Oasis') will partner with Sydney Symphony Orchestra for a career-spanning set that will highlight the Sunday line-up.
Earlier on, Western Sydney collective Worlds Collide and folk duo Stiff Gins will open the final night at Tumbalong Park in a joint performance created just for Summerground. Soul, heavy funk chargers Dojo Cuts, Grammy Award-winning R&B artist Judith Hill and Melbourne's Tiana Khasi also make up the Sunday bill.
There'll also be regular DJs keeping the mood uptempo between sets all three days with beats supplied by Close Encounters DJs, AROHA, Sampology and others.
Tickets on sale from 12pm (local time) on 26 October.
