American death metal veterans, Suffocation are headed back to Australia in 2024 and they're bringing Boston prog-tech metallers Revocation.
The New York band, who released their ninth studio album 'Hymns From The Apocrypha' last week, will headline shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide next April.Suffocation first announced themselves with their 1991 debut album 'Effigy Of The Forgotten' that spawned the singles 'Liege Of Inveracity' and 'Infecting The Crypts'. Along with their 1995 album 'Pierced From Within', many regard Suffocation as one of the founding pioneers of the death metal genre.
"We will always be pushing for an extreme edge," the band's bassist Derek Boyer says, discussing 'Hymns...'. "After decades of this, we're not just going add a violin or feature a spoon man or some other bullsh.t.
"Suffocation is raw, aggressive, fast, heavy, brutal death metal. Just as it has always been and will always be."
While Revocation may have a 'progressive' edge, make no mistake, they are 100 per cent pure, face-melting death metal who have delivered six albums across two decades.
Their latest, 2022's 'Netherheaven' explores the allegorical and literal aspects of Hell as the band dig deeper into the darker, more diabolical side of death metal.
"The new songs on 'Netherheaven' are evil and sinister but also have a progressive element to them to keep things interesting. It's got our stamp on it, no question," frontman Dave Davidson says.
