Subsonic Music Festival Announces James Holden

James Holden
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Subsonic Music Festival has launched for 2014 with its ambient, progressive, left-field, electro-punk, house, bass, and techno bases covered.

First live act announce is James Holden (UK). Holden is now old-school having been professionally active since the age of 19 — remixing an array of high profile artists such Madonna, Nick Kershaw & Radiohead, to founding and running the reputable label Border Community which is credited for kick-starting the careers of eclectic artists such as Nathan Fake and Fairmont.

James’ renowned live act features a symphony of cosmic analogue sound, drums both live and electronic, and a visual landscape with an aesthetic which is all his own. We can’t think of a better place than the lush surrounds and atmosphere of our festival for what will be a truly rare electronic experience, bound to evoke dance-floor trances while raising hands in the air.

Also announced is British electro-punk outfit Factory Floor, who burst onto the international stage in 2013 with their self-titled album on legendary label DFA.

Next is Addison Groove's (Headhunter) stripped-down drums & acid-squelch. Self-professed on Soundcloud as 'bass sh*t' he's sure to get the hardest of bass-faces melting. Hailing from Bristol, UK with releases on Modeselektors 50 Weapon imprint and Transistor Rhythm, his sets cross from lush female vocals to squelching acid pinches, weaving a dance-floor session you just have to keep stepping to.

Long-standing Detroit maestro Mike Huckaby is added from the US to deliver a blend of deep house & techno. Mike has remixed the likes of Deepchord, Juan Atkins, Vladislav Delay, Pole, Loco Dice, LoSoul, and Pacou, and runs 2 labels  S Y N T H & Deep Transportation. Mike is also a sound designer and teaches classes for Ableton and Native Instruments (Maschine).

Ellen Alien — DJ/ producer, record label operator, vocalist, fashion label extraordinnaire, and owner of her own radio show on KissFM in Berlin where she also held down a residency at Tresor will be joining Subsonic this year. With a prolific career that started in the 90's, she has continued on from strength to strength, forging work with names like Apparat, Uffie & Barbara Morgenstern.

Final first-announce artist is Switzerland’s Eli Verveine, France’s Pepperpot and favourite Frenchman-turned-Berliner, Alexkid. All three are no strangers to Australia’s shores, with each throwing down their own unique blend of deep and tech house.
