Abstract post-punk rhythms married to electronic productions, Daylight Ghosts newest single, 'In The Glow', is a fusion of folk, goth and hip hop ideas that all connect for a furious, intense ride through an alternative, industrial sonic-landscape.
The Brisbane duo, comprised of singer-songwriter Adam Dawe (Lunar Seasons, Novus Wild) and composer/ guitarist Karl O'Shea (Balloons Kill Babies, inovo, Sarah Stockholm, Ghostwoods), have been working on an EP release, and 'In The Glow' is the first taste of that project."Lyrically 'In The Glow' is a song about addiction disguised as the creative process disguised as addiction. Erase. Start over. Erase," Adam says.
"The song has undergone multiple different verses, choruses, bridges and even titles before we finally settled on a 'finished' version.
"If you saw one of our live shows from last year you would have heard a fairly different 'work in progress' version.
"The song didn't really fully reveal itself until we were already in the studio and had recorded an initial version, albeit under a different title.
"From there we tweaked and reworked certain parts until it emerged in its final form, complete with a new name. I even rewrote and re-recorded the verses one last time for good measure."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is amped to premiere 'In The Glow' today. Enjoy.
Recorded with Matt Dodds in January this year, 'In The Glow' finds Daylight Ghosts exploring new areas of their sonic palette as they experiment with different synths and programming techniques.
"The finished song marks a nice progression from our previous singles," adds Adam.
"We really used the studio as an instrument (with plenty of help from Matt Dodds, of course) for this upcoming batch of songs, and 'In The Glow' is a great reflection of that.
"On a personal level, the song is a nice reminder of the creative process for me, and how it's never really over. And it's a great reflection of where we are as a band and what people can expect from our EP."
