Story Of The Year helped define a genre a decade ago when they released ‘Page Avenue’, and now they’re heading to Australia to celebrate its ten-year anniversary.
“When we started talking about more stuff and touring, we didn’t want to just tour,” says guitarist Philip Sneed. “We decided to make a reimagining of ‘Page Avenue’ to inject some life into songs that meant so much to us, and a lot to our fans, and give a different take on it.
“It was the perfect opportunity to say ‘you know what let's play it all, let's play it back to back, let's play a whole bunch of other stuff, let’s get out there, let's have fun, let's see if people like it’.”
The American rock band will tour down under in June and according to Sneed are excited to be playing to Aussie fans. “It's the most loyal fan base on the planet. [Australia] is so excited to stay up [to date] with the band and they’re not just fans of songs or records, but they are fans of bands! That's how it's supposed to be! I haven't been in Australia and haven’t had a smile on my face the entire time. Ever.”
With a reputation for explosive live shows to uphold, the guitarist says “we're going to try and do everything we can to deliver a set that's worth it... that's meaningful. We're playing all of ‘Page Avenue’ in its entirety.
“There will be fan favourites from other albums that we didn't necessarily get to play in Australia. Not only are we going to try and play favourites but some of the other tracks that a lot of people said they mean a lot to them.”
There’s also talk of a new Story Of The Year album. “We've passed songs back and forth and we have a lot of ideas in our heads... making sure the timing is right, worth ethic and the direction of the music is right. We're not the kind of band to put a record out just for the sake of putting a record out. We really want to make it something really special that makes people feel sort of engaged.”
