English musician Steven Wilson returns to Australia for a rare tour, presenting his new concept album 'The Overview' with a world-class backing band.
The progressive rock, art rock veteran artist – who first became to prominence with Porcupine Tree inn the late '80s and '90s, and who has accumulated six Grammy nominations – will headline concerts in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in November.Released today, 'The Overview' is a conceptual journey (spread across 2 tracks running for 42 minutes); Wilson was inspired by the 'overview effect' astronauts encounter when viewing Earth from outer spacer space.
Blending a progressive sprawl with cinematic electronics and lush, immersive vibes all wrapped in spatial audio wizardry, it's an album that sees Wilson return to the long-form style he re-shaped with Porcupine Tree and his early solo days.
The Australian tour, which follows extensive dates in the UK, Europe and North America – also being Wilson's first headline tour in seven years – will feature a backing band of stacked musicians.
Seasoned veterans including Nick Beggs on bass (Mute Gods, Steve Hackett), legendary jazz keyboardist, Adam Holzman (Miles Davis, Ray Manzarek,), Craig Blundell on drums (Steve Hackett, Frost) and Randy McStine on guitars (Marco Minnemann, The Fringe) will accompany Wilson in Australia.
"The Overview tour is shaping up to be my most epic live show to date and I can't wait to rejoin my incredible band for this run of performances."
Tickets on sale from 9am (local time) on 20 March.
