Stark Drive: Ipswich Battle Of The Bands Profile

Stark Drive
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Stark Drive are band of four brothers from Toowoomba, who play a mix of alternative rock and pop punk.

They'll be competing at the 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands.

Name of band: Stark Drive.

Style of music you play?
A mix between alternative rock and pop punk.

Band highlight so far?
Playing a show at the Toowoomba Relay for Life, which is rewarding in and of itself. But the highlight of that was when someone in the crowd actually requested that we play one of our original songs, 'Let Me Be Happy'. It made us feel famous.

The band's influences?
Blink 182, They Might Be Giants, Green Day and Weezer.

Which act/ group would you guys love to support?
The Living End. They're a legendary Aussie band that we're pretty much obsessed with.

What's the biggest misconception about Ipswich?
The biggest misconception about Ipswich is that it's the most bogan city in Queensland; we can verify that it is not: we are from Toowoomba.

The band's rider includes what?
We've never had a rider, but it would be pizza, chocolate milk and a Mario Party game so we can get real mad before the show.

Finish this sentence: In 12 months our band will be…
Hopefully part of the good, Aussie music festival circuit or playing heaps more shows across Australia.

Who would be the ultimate person to be the band's spokesperson?
Jim Carrey. Because he is funny, seems like a rad dude and 'Liar, Liar' is one of the best movies of all time.

Given we have a federal election underway, why should people Vote 1 for Stark Drive?
They shouldn't. Please don't vote for us under any circumstances. We can't even agree on what songs to play during practice, can you imagine us trying to negotiate foreign economic policy?

Favourite music movie or documentary of all time?
'This Is Spinal Tap'. This is the only valid answer to this question.

If you had no budget constraints, what would you add, incorporate into your live show?
Probably a really big, dance routine with 30-plus dancers, a whole bunch of fireworks, flamethrowers on every instrument and a big line of bouncy castles behind us so that people can come up and bounce around as we play.

We spend too much time on this website/ app?
We spend way too much time on YouTube, watching terrible 'let's plays' and other bits of assorted junk we find and laugh at.

Can you tell scenestr a joke?
How did the hipster burn his hand? He changed the light bulb before it was cool.

The 2nd Annual Ipswich Battle Of The Bands takes place at the Ipswich City Square Saturday 2 July from 11am until 7pm.
