Spiderbait will lead a stellar line-up of home grown Aussie rock at Come Together Recharged Festival.
Harking back to the festival's original rock roots, Come Together Recharged presents a six-hour onslaught from both established and emerging national bands including The Superjesus, Mammal, Osaka Punch and Rackett.
“I think it's going to be really great,” Spiderbait drummer and frontman Kram says.
“One of the things I'm really looking forward to is playing with The Superjesus; we used to play with them many years ago. It was funny because I did a radio show on Double J last year and it was a retrospective programme all through Australian Music Month of the '90s. One of the guests on was Dylan Lewis who used to be the host of 'Recovery'.
“We were going through a few old clips and I remember seeing [a] Superjesus clip playing on there and I'd often wonder if we'd ever get to play with The Superjesus again because we always liked playing with them.
“In general the [festival] line-up looks really good, I'm really interested to see what the other bands are like and I've heard good reports about everyone... Everyone's talking about Rackett so I can't wait to see them.”
Come Together was established in 2005 and will return to Big Top Luna Park in Sydney this year as well as extending its run to include NightQuarter on the Gold Coast. The greatest hits set expected from Spiderbait will be their only 2018 Sydney show and their first on the Gold Coast in many years.
For Kram, who has spent the better part of his life traversing the country's highways and back roads bringing the music of Spiderbait to audiences Australia-wide, he now sees festivals like Come Together as social gatherings for he and his musical mates. “I think that's one of the cool things about being a musician,” he says.
“If you're a musician you're always interested in other bands, whether it's older bands that you haven't had a chance to see or brand new bands you want to check out.
“There's also the social element of music and I really love that. Most of my friends are musicians and their ages range from 19 to 60, so it's a really interesting space to exist in because everyone speaks the same language.”
Come Together Recharged in 2018 is an amalgamation of the old and new guards of Australian rock, a format Kram says works well for the festival. “We've had that many times before playing with older bands and younger bands, and it's good they've got this line-up this way so we can see the other bands as well.”
Above all other concerns though, Kram says the most important thing is to have fun – a field in which he considers himself a bit of an expert. “I've made a whole life out of enjoying myself, that's the whole premise of my existence,” he laughs.
“Be good to each other, live a good life and try to make sure you have a good time as much as you possibly can.”
