Spiderbait

As they near their 40th birthday later this decade, perennial fuzz-noise-rock merchants Spiderbait return to the road to honour the 30th anniversary of their seminal album 'Ivy & The Big Apples'.

Janet, Whit and Kram will buckle in for a five-date national tour taking in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney this July.

Winner of Best Alternative Release at the 1997 ARIA Awards as well as a Top 10 record on the ARIA Albums Chart, 'Ivy & The Big Apples' features two of Spiderbait's biggest hits: 'Calypso' and 'Buy Me A Pony', the latter winning the 1996 Hottest 100.

The 16-track record also contains plenty of deeper cuts like 'Hot Water And Milk', 'When Fusion Ruled The Earth', 'Don't Kill Nipper', 'Horschack Army' and 'Should Have Done What My Mum Always Told Me To', many of which haven't been performed live for years, if not decades.

"Stoked to be touring 'Ivy & The Big Apples' 🍏 this year for her 30th birthday 🎂🎸," Spiderbait says. "Such an important album for us with lots of epic memories. . . like 'Pony' winning the Hottest 100 and Janet singing 'Calypso' ❤️.

"So to play the record live in its entirety around the nation will be mega 🎸 and a fantastic line-up of so many of our fave bands thanks for celebrating with us ☘️!! See you soon Australia🇦🇺🎸❤️!"

To be reissued on vinyl (3 July; pre-order it), 'Ivy & The Big Apples' 30th anniversary edition LP celebrates this cultural touchstone; and is an essential piece of Australian music history, ready to be rediscovered.

These will be Spiderbait's first national dates since their 2024 run celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 'Tonight Alright' record, which we declared 'do not sleep on Spiderbait; they've never been in greater form with a catalogue of songs that have withstood the test of time'.

Each state will see Spiderbait joined by one of their '90s contemporaries: Custard (Brisbane), Magic Dirt (Melbourne), The Meanies (Perth, Adelaide) and Tumbleweed (Sydney).

With their new single 'Magic Man' out today, emerging Frankston garage rockers The Gnomes join the entire tour; no doubt an eye-opening experience for the youngsters who serve up a feral, hook-heavy take on '60s beat and power-pop that has seen them build a local cult following.

Tickets on sale from 1pm (local time) on 17 April.
