Rock & roll OGs, Spiderbait have not only released their first album ('Sounds In The Key Of J' – a record that celebrates the legacy of bassist-singer Janet English) in nine years today, but also revealed dates for their first national tour in five years.
The band have also dropped a music video for their first new single in nine years, 'My Car's A UFO'. Winning days! The idea behind 'Sounds In The Key Of J' was initiated by the group's rambunctious singer-drummer Kram, who wanted to create a collection of songs Janet has written 'cause her "songs are special".
"Kram was going on about the compilation idea – and initially, I said 'hell no'," admits English. "I kinda said 'OK' to shut him up. . . And here we are!"
"One of my favourite things about this record is hearing all of Janet's songs back to back," adds Kram.
"It gives them a new continuity, and almost creates a solo album that exists within the context of the band.
"Even though it's a compilation of old material, this is one of my favourite Spiderbait records."
Their first national run of shows since the Ivy & The Big Apples tour in 2017, Spiderbait will headline concerts in Launceston, Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle and Adelaide throughout winter.
Tickets on sale from 9am (local time) on 21 April.
