Even Spacey Jane are allowed to have 'One Bad Day'.
After a massive 2023 that saw them tour globally as well as visiting regional Australia, before closing out the year with a slew of local festival appearances – all while writing their third album – Spacey Jane are signing off the 'Here Comes Everybody' album cycle with a new single.
Originally written around the time 'Here Comes Everybody' landed in 2022 – an album that debuted at #1 on ARIA album charts while eventually securing six songs in the Hottest 100, three in the top six – before being recorded in between 2023 tour duties, 'One Bad Day' is 'an ode to overreacting, giving up on a good thing because you can't see the forest for the trees'.
"The song was written just as we delivered 'Here Comes Everybody'," frontman Caleb Harper explains.
"Kon [Kersting, producer] and I caught up in Brisbane between shows and wanted to build on the past six months of collaboration with no real plan in mind – we sat in his studio for a day and voila!
"We juggled remote recording between Australia and the USA, where we've been working on LP3, and finished it up in Brisbane while on tour.
"To me it feels like it's the perfect bookend for this album cycle; it was too late for 'Here Comes Everybody' and doesn't seem to fit in with our next record.
"At the same time, we really love the song, we want to see it out in the world and so found it a place in between albums as a way to say thank you to fans and scratch an itch of our own before we start rolling out LP3."
As for what comes next for a band with a staggering 432 million global streams across their catalogue, fans are instructed to wait patiently to find out – the new album is about halfway recorded: "We're really, really excited to start sharing it with you."
