Soundwave Officially Cancelled

Soundwave Cancelled
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard started Scene Magazine in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr magazine to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative for the title in the mid-naughties. He's judged more battle of the bands than he cares to remember and proud of the myriad media partnerships the company has earned across the music, arts and comedy sectors. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford Comma – way too much fun at parties.

Soundwave 2016 is officially cancelled.

Soundwave promoter, AJ Maddah, made the announcement via Twitter saying he was devastated and that he had tried his best. He cited poor ticket sales as the reason, even though as recently as yesterday he described them as "reasonable".

The announcement puts to an end the swirling conjecture surrounding the festival's future, heightened in recent days following Maddah's confirmation there would be no Soundwave 2017.

Yesterday NOFX guitarist Eric Melvin Instagrammed a pic yesterday morning saying the cancellation of SW16 won't stop him from seeing his Aussie friends at Christmas.

The last 24 hours have featured social media exchanges between Maddah and ticketing company Eventopia originally relating to blame, and since the announcement, how and when ticket refunds will occur.
