After dropping the (somewhat expected) news that Soundwave 2017 definitely won't exist, it looks like SW16 won't go ahead either.
UPDATE: Soundwave 2016 is officially cancelled.
NOFX guitarist Eric Melvin Instagrammed a pic yesterday morning saying the cancellation of SW16 won't stop him from seeing his Aussie friends at Christmas. However AJ Maddah has refused to confirm the claims, saying Melvin's announcement of a cancellation is a little premature.
“Not true yet. We’ll know this afternoon,” he told fans on Twitter yesterday. “It is down to some scumbags at Eventopia/Ticketel [sic].” Lovely, really.
The touring company are almost $26 million in debt CX reported citing an audit report prepared by Deloitte. Ouch. Adding to that a weak line-up in 2016, a decision about the '16 event was expected to be made yesterday afternoon – but it's not looking good, because there's been no word yet.
Back in September when Deloitte was appointed to audit Soundwave Pty Ltd after the business entered into voluntary administration, Maddah assured fans the festival would go ahead as scheduled in 2016.
The Deloitte report reveals Soundwave Pty Ltd has 186 unpaid creditors including production suppliers, venues, bands and the ATO which is reportedly chasing the company for more than $6 million.
