A year on from the success of debut album 'Treehouse', powerhouse pop duo Sofi Tukker embark on the next phase of what has so far been a colourful and creative career.
With their new single 'Fantasy', Sofi Tukker – otherwise known as Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern – are taking another step closer to unveiling their ultimate pop music concept.
“We've got a lot of new music coming and it's just the progression and evolution of our vision both sonically and visually,” Sophie says.
“We can't exactly announce or say what is coming, but I will say that there is a whole new world, if you will.”
Tucker adds: “There's definitely a lot to come pretty soon that we can't wait for everyone to see and experience with us.”
For 'Fantasy', Sophie and Tucker worked with personal friend, producer Jon Hume of Evermore.
“He's like one of our best friends, we've written a lot with him,” Tucker says of Jon.
“We don't collaborate much with other producers, but he is one guy that has just become part of the family and we've done a lot together,” Tucker says.
“He actually lived in the same house as us for about two months this year while his place was getting redone, so we are family basically.
“He's a good friend and such a talented person. He helped in turn making that imagination and dream of a song come to life for all of us.”
With a new song comes all-new production for their live set – a kaleidoscopic whorl of light, colour and vivd imagery truly befitting the creative hive mind that is Sofi Tukker.
Having premiered it at Coachella earlier in April, Sofi Tukker will be showing it off on their upcoming Australian tour.
“We're going to bring a lot of that new production from Coachella with us and do our best to create our world onstage, just like that,” Tucker says.
“That's really exciting and that's going to be our new live show. We also have a lot of new songs that we didn't necessarily show at Coachella that we play in concert that we will be playing in this new show that we've never played before.
“We're going to go crazy and we're going to give it all the energy we got.”
With highly-anticipated appearances at Groovin The Moo as well as their own headline sideshows, the Sofi Tukker spaceship is anxious for take-off.
“I think when we first went to Australia it was about two years ago and I remember just being in shock,” Sophie laughs.
“I was like 'why didn't anyone tell me?'. I thought it was a secret that Australia was the best place in the world... we've been wanting to come back ever since then.
“The people, the climate and vibe and natural landscape – everything is really inspiring to us and totally what we we love to live in. It's definitely a happy place for us and we're excited to come back.”
