So You Think You Can Judge A Music Video?

Queensland Music Design Awards
Founder and Publisher. Based in Brisbane.
Howard started Scene Magazine in 1993. Paul Keating was Prime Minister. Whitney, Janet and Mariah all had Aussie #1s and Mark Zuckerberg was 9. Over 30 years he's overseen the growth of scenestr magazine to become Australia's largest – and only national – street press while forging a digital-first imperative for the title in the mid-naughties. He's judged more battle of the bands than he cares to remember and proud of the myriad media partnerships the company has earned across the music, arts and comedy sectors. He likes Star Trek and a good Oxford Comma – way too much fun at parties.

The judging is under way — in an angst-ridden kinda way — for the 'Best Music Video' in the 2014 Queensland Music Design Awards (QMDAs).

This inaugural year's finalists feature a folk-indie ballad, rockabilly, a classic cover and electronic-infused dub hip hop and more.

We've cast our votes and scored the entries across these criteria:
Concept (25 points)
Performance (20 points)
Storyline (20 points)
Quality Of Production (30 points)
Marketability (5 points)

But how would you have voted? Naturally some videos lent themselves to being scored better than others, but separating the front-runners over minutiae proved more more problematic. Over to you!

The Presentation Awards Ceremony for the inaugural Queensland Music Design Awards will be held 5 May at the New Globe Theatre.
