Canadian First Nations hip hop duo, Snotty Nose Rez Kids finally return to Australia next month.
Last here in 2019, the Haisla Nation pairing of Young D and Yung Trybez initially had plans to return in 2020 before the pandemic derailed everyone's agenda. Now, six years removed from their first taste of Australia, Snotty Nose Rez Kids will play a Vivid Sydney showcase alongside an appearance at Yirramboi Festival in Melbourne playing the Uncle Archie Roach Block Party. They'll also headline shows in Newscastle, Gold Coast and Sydney.
"We can't wait to be back," declares Yung Trybez. "After the pandemic derailed our touring plans, including plans to return to Australia in 2020, we've been waiting for the right time.
"After touring our new album all over North America, this felt like the perfect moment to bring the Red Future tour experience world-wide!"
Snotty Nose Rez Kids have released three albums since they were down under – 'Life After' (2021), 'I'm Good, HBU?' (2022) [that was released by Bad Apples Music], and their major label debut via Sony, 'Red Future' (2024), which saw them collaborate with the likes of Electric Fields on the title track.
"We met Electric Fields in 2019; we happened on a set they were doing for BIGSOUND and were blown away by them," shares Young D. "This collaboration has been a long time in the works and we're blessed to have them involved in this one.
"This track was years in the making and we couldn't be happier to have made it the title track for our album."
"'Red Future'," adds Yung Trybez, "is about wanting to see our future generations thriving. We were inspired by Indigenous futurism and we see Snotty Nose Rez Kids as a small part in opening doors and inspiring future youth to realise the vision for their own lives, whether it's music, art or anything else."
