Best known as a venue for live music, Brisbane's The Triffid is mixing up its Sunday programming with Snitch Sundays.
The Triffid's Marcus Rapley is the man behind the series.
Tell us about the concept behind the Snitch Sundays series?
[Marcus]The Triffid is known as a live music venue, but with Snitch we're bringing hip hop, trip-hop, breaks, nu jazz, funky glitch, house and sexy D&B to our beer garden on a Sunday afternoon. It's an ideal hangover cure.
What is the ethos of the day; what type of crowd/ clientele are you looking to attract to Snitch Sundays?
Snitch is a free event and has been created for everyone: from hospitality staff kicking off their weekend to nine-to-fivers wrapping theirs up.
It's a great chance to catch up with friends over beers and burgers and enjoy some quality beats. It's been designed to have a steady progression of BPM, starting with chilled beats in the early afternoon up to current dancefloor pleasers in the early evening.
How have the first few events faired since the launch in early November?
They've been well-received, particularly by locals who are happy that they've found somewhere to enjoy this kind of music. We're also a dog-friendly venue, so we've had lots of people use The Triffid for a pit stop on their afternoon walk.
Who do you have as resident DJs?
The line-up will rotate with an all-star crew of DJs including Butterz, Tony Lee, Erther, Rasp, James Wright, Cutloose, Jaymak, Charlie Hustle, Tom Bloomfield, AJS, Mr Walker and Jason Rouse, with more to come.
Do you have a Christmas or NYE event planned
The Triffid will be closed on Christmas eve. We'll re-open for Snitch on New Year's Eve. Mr Walker, Rasp and Cutloose will be playing, with special guest DJ Wootini.
What would Snitch Sundays like Santa to leave under the tree this year, assuming you've been good Snitch?
More Monday public holidays.
Would you be open to guest DJ slots from touring bands in town for the weekend?
Most definitely if they're appropriate DJs for Snitch.
Let's talk food options as well; if you need a burger to slay your Saturday night hangover what can you expect to gobble down?
From the popular Triffid burger to a vegan burger, we've got you covered. We also got share options such as cheese platters and Pims and mojito jugs.
Anything else you'd like to share with our readers?
We're kid friendly until 5pm and dog friendly until 7pm. We also have a pool table and a ping pong table, so bring your A-game.
