smalltown — the semi-regular dance event powered by Novel, well on its way to becoming a 'Melbourne institution' since launching back in 2011 — has dropped another saliva-generating line-up.
Headliner Derrick May will bring over 35 years of experience to Brown Alley on Anzac Day. Alongside Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins (aka The Belleville Three), May is credited with inventing techno. So, you know, no big deal. Since the release of 'Nude Photo' in 1987, May's been steering and shaping house music, and is widely credited with releasing the ultimate house record — 'Strings Of Life' — in 1988.
May will be joined by Berlin DJ, producer and label owner Ben Klock, a resident at Berghain since the club's opening in 2004. Best known for his monthly marathon sets at the venue, his releases through Ostgut Ton (including debut album One) and the aesthetics of his own label, Klockworks, certainly haven't done him any harm, either.
Bristol's Eats Everything (aka Daniel Pearce) rounds out the bill. While May — and, to a lesser extent, Klock — have been here for years, Pearce has burst onto the scene from out of nowhere. He released his first record, 'Entrance Song', in the second half of 2011, and has already earned praise from the likes of Pete Tong, Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Carl Cox, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Jon Digweed.
Derrick May, Ben Klock and Eats Everything play Brown Alley on Thursday April 25, presented by smalltown.
