Slug Life 2 was a night (23 October) of gangsta beats, graffiti and live hip hop held at the Slug & Lettuce.

Eskatology was the first to jump on stage, and true to form brought his A game! He always brings the conscious hip hop, comprising dope beats and intelligent lyrics. Having seen him perform over the years, he has grown immensely as an artist and always steps the game up.

The highlight was his hip hop rendition of Men At Work's 'Land Downunder'. Judging by the crowd's response, it's become somewhat of an underground, cult classic. Some classic thug rap filled the time before the next artist stepped on stage.

Next up was SamPaul. He always brings an energetic show, with heavy beats and amazing storytelling lyrics. Highlights were a fresh new remix of his classic 'The Vibe', the heavy Ciecmate-produced 'Walk Alone' and the commentary of being yourself with 'This Is Me'.

The first of the freestyle raps ensued, with newcomer Melise taking on Blitz. Both were entertaining, bringing wit and humour to their improvised raps. But it was Blitz who had the crowd's support in the end. Props to Melise for stepping up for her first time at Slug Life!

The final act to grace the stage was DC & Dragz. Both are no stranger to the local scene and together they provided an entertaining end to the live performances. They commanded the crowd's attention and never failed to deliver the goods. The highlight was the attention-grabbing beatbox harmonica from DC with Dragz handling the rhyme duties.

The night ended with a viewing of the graff artists (who had been painting throughout the night), and an open-mic cypher. All in all, a great night was had by all. Plenty of brews, beats and thuggin' all round, showing Adelaide that the northern suburbs are alive and well and a definite force to be reckoned with!

Slug Life 3 returns 27 November at the Slug & Lettuce.
