His age is unknown. His name is unknown. His identity is anonymous.
“I can answer [the age] question by saying I'm not 12 and I'm not 86. I can even say I'm somewhere in between the two ages. But even that's giving away too much information," explains the US producer known as Slow Magic.
His self-confessed tagline 'music by your imaginary friend' is a shortened and not very well understood reasoning for his anonymity. Slow Magic explains further: "When I first started [Slow Magic], I wanted to [do it] in a way that was different to the music I made or other people made. I wanted it to be something that people could relate to … I didn't want the project to be based around my identity or my location and all of that.
“I just wanted the music and the art to come from a different place, like an imaginary place. It's also really fun to [have a hidden identity] because I get to play with it sometimes, like you might meet me at my show and not even realise it — who knows,” he says with a laugh.
Slow Magic's live performances are renowned for the warm and magically melodic atmosphere his music creates. "Even someone who may have heard my music [before seeing me live] would be surprised to see me because I play [with] a mask on, and it has lights in it. Also, I play drums live and I think it might be more of an energetic performance than what people might expect … no one knows what to expect really."
Slow Magic is in the process of finalising his new, yet-to-be-named album which fans can expect to see at his Australian shows. “I’ve been playing some of these live and seeing how it goes … even now they’re not finished yet — I will be playing some live that maybe no one has ever heard before.”
