With their new album incoming this autumn, instrumental post-rockers sleepmakeswaves will tour Australia in April.
The 'It's Dark, It's Cold, It's Winter' group will headline shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in what will be the first leg of sleepmakeswaves' 2024 world tour that will also visit Europe and the USA (playing Belgium's Dunk Festival and co-headlining PostFest in Indianapolis).Joining sleepmakeswaves for the Australian run of shows will be Taiwanese math rock legends Elephant Gym (their first ever visit to Australia) and local post-rock veterans Meniscus.
'It's Here, But I Have No Names For It' is the title of the group's fourth studio album, which is slated for release on 12 April (pre-order it).
Written during the pandemic, it was produced by the band at Golden Retriever Studios in Sydney, originally recorded during 2022 before the sessions were completed in 2023.
It was then mixed by Andrei Eremin (Closure In Moscow, Tash Sultana, G Flip, Luca Brasi) in Philadelphia and mastered by Jeff Lipton and Maria Rice at Peerless Mastering in Boston.
The band released a statement to fans: "The instrumental band sleepmakeswaves decided rock music they must save. In the year twenty twenty four, fans were clamouring for more, so they dropped a new record. It's a rave!
"The long and mysterious phase of nothingness, although crucial to the smw creative process, is finally over. We're excited to share that we'll be back for a short run around the east coast of Australia in support of our new album.
"We don't get out that often these days, so with every tour we're focusing on lifting the production and the staging to provide an unforgettable and earnestly intense experience.
"We hope you'll join us, and the amazing Elephant Gym and Meniscus with whom we have the honour of sharing the stage on this line-up.
"On top of that, after no less than ten years, we'll be back at the incredible Dunk Festival in May. And after eight long years away, we'll be back in the USA, performing at PostFest alongside some absolute legends of the game. We can't wait."
