So the night of Sleep (Thu 11 Dec) has finally arrived for me after all these years.

I actually didn't this think would ever happen and I'm pretty stoked they changed venues to accommodate their many fans in Brisbane. My night started at The Boundary for a couple of frosty ones with the stoner-doom crew and you could tell it was going to be a good night from the outset.

First cab off the rank was Geordie with his one man and machines outfit Golden Bats. He was set-up stage left surrounded by fold backs and proceeded to assault my senses with his crushing, riff-laden brand of slow grind; do yourself a favour and search this one out locally.

The local, stoner-doom crew of Frown were up next, but I missed these guys but was informed they blew the crowd away with their heavy duty, psychedelic-groove rock.

The beginning of the Sleep set was preceded by what seemed a recording of Apollo astronauts chatting before the curtains peeled back and the band proceeded to rip through a section of their epic ‘Dopesmoker’.

The riffage of these guys backed by the pounding of that glittery Ludwig kit delivered my dreams in all their grinding glory. There was very little talk by these guys as they just proceeded to pummel the crowd’s mind and body relentlessly till they thanked us and left to the ripping, bass feedback one last time.

My fave track of the night was ‘Dragonaught’, so as my ears ring while writing this I have that trampling through my brain.
