Sleater-Kinney 2024 Australia Tour

Sleater-Kinney tour Australia May 2024.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A band with a close affinity to Australia, alt-rockers Sleater-Kinney return down under in 2024 for the first time since 2016.

Thirty years since they formed in Olympia, Washington, as part of the riot grrrl movement before recording their debut self-titled album in just one night in 1994 right here in Australia, Sleater-Kinney (Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein) will headline concerts in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Fremantle in May.

The tour news lands a month since Tucker and Brownstein released Sleater-Kinney's eleventh studio album 'Little Rope', which features the singles 'Hell', 'Say It Like You Mean It' and 'Untidy Creature'.

"For all intents and purposes, Sleater-Kinney got its start in Australia," Brownstein says. "We recorded our first album and played our first ever shows there.

"Because of that, Australia feels like one of the band's spiritual homes, and returning there always feels like a homecoming, a reunion."

'Little Rope' was written in the aftermath of the death of both Brownstein's mother and stepfather in a car accident while vacationing in Italy. Lyrically, the album explores how we navigate grief and the ways in which it transforms us.

"So grateful to share this music with you," Sleater-Kinney says. "A rope can be many things; it can hold us back or it can be a guideline through our most difficult night. The songs, for us, always show us the way forward."

Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 23 February.
