Renowned '90s Australian funk-rock band, Skunkhour continue their resurgence with another run of live dates promoting their newest single.
A group who melded soul-pop, grunge, hip hop, funk and rap-rock to create infectious grooves, Skunkhour were mainstays of the Australian alternative scene throughout the '90s, earning four entries in the Hottest 100 during that span as well as regular festival appearances.
After periodic reunions since their initial run ended in 2001, last year Skunkhour returned with a run of sold-out shows and a four-track EP 'Parts Of The Sun' that included the single 'Blue'.
This burst of tour activity and new material has continued with the group's newest single 'Rain On Me' coming to life during a soundcheck last year.
"The song formed out of a soundcheck jam at The Princess Theatre, Brisbane, in 2022 and was recorded earlier this year in Sydney with Dan Frizza," the group's vocalist Aya Larkin says.
"We gave full reign to the heavy bass and the stomp it provided, layered sticky synths, and tought drums, then let the vocals roll like a mantra over the big fizzing guitar drone in the chorus.
"Del had rhymes about an adrenaline-soaked stimuli overload, which meld with my lyrics centred on a search for affinity within that chaos."
With the addition of a new drummer Carlos Adura, the band will play shows in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Phillip Island, Brisbane and Gold Coast as well as appearing at Far North Queensland event Airlie Beach Festival Of Music.
"While every tour is infused with excitement, this one carries a distinct energy," Aya says. "We sense a momentum building, our first time playing a couple of iconic venues, which is invigorating."
Fans can expect the band's classics: 'Up To Our Necks In It', 'Weightlessness', 'Home', 'Kick In The Door' and 'Do You Like It' performed alongside their newer material.
