Skegss Enter Valhalla As They Tease Their Next Studio Album 'Rehearsal'

Skegss
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Loveable indie rockers Skegss have dropped new single 'Valhalla', the lead track from their forthcoming album 'Rehearsal'.

With three previous songs from 'Rehearsal' already released (including two that landed in the recent Hottest 100: 'Under The Thunder' #27 & 'Fantasising' #66), the trio of Ben Reed, Toby Cregan and Jonny Lani worked with producer Catherine Marks (Manchester Orchestra, PJ Harvey, The Killers).

Of the album's origins, Reed explains: "I was pretty scared that I was going to lose my job at a brewery because I was spontaneously taking off for gig opportunities.

"I remember talking to Farmer Greg, who used to come in to get the wheat malt for his cows. He used to work for '60 Minutes', filming on the helicopter.

"He asked what I got up to and I downloaded my predicament to him and he goes: 'Do it. This is no rehearsal. You go for that, you can do this later.' I fully needed to hear that."

The result is a 13-track album recorded at The Grove Studios with Marks, who added a veteran's finesse and expanded upon the rustic charm of demos Skegss tracked at The Music Farm using vintage gear from the '60s and '70s.

The album's trippy cover was designed by Jack Irvine (who has also worked with Billie Eilish and Troye Sivan).

'Rehearsal' is set for release on 26 March. Pre-order it.

Skegss play Live At The Bowl with Ruby Fields and more at Sidney Myer Music Bowl (Melbourne) 20 February.
