Melbourne glam-rock band, Sisters Doll have released a new single, 'Black Mirror', which is a call to action about society's reliance on technology.
Off the back of a recent tour supporting John Corabi, Sisters Doll will headline their own national tour starting in June to promote 'Black Mirror', which landed at #1 on the iTunes rock chart.
“It was so unexpected,” the group's lead singer and guitarist Brennan Mileto says, “especially being an independent band you don't have that label support. So to get there just being independent and doing it ourselves was pretty exciting.
“It shows that our fan base is very passionate and strong, which is cool. It was amazing, we never thought we'd get to #1, but it was cool.”
The trio of brothers are certainly leaving their mark on the music scene, both here and abroad, having toured with KISS legends Peter Criss and Bruce Kulick.
“KISS was a big influence for us. That's what we grew up listening to. We draw a lot of inspiration and we try to make it our own, a new take [on glam rock].
“Even though we are brothers who grew up listening to the same stuff, we've also got our own tastes as well, so it's kinda cool to bring it all together and make our own unique sort of package. We pride ourselves on our own sound that is a modern day, power rock sorta vibe that reawakens the feeling of escaping the destiny, you know?”
After ten years together, Sisters Doll have played countless Australian and international shows. Ahead of their next run of performances, Brennan promises their show will be “a great night and a night to remember.
“We have a duty to take an audience on a victorious escape from reality through the sound of our rock music. It's pretty much gonna be a roller-coaster ride, we lock 'em in from the start and there's ups and downs until we've left everything we can on the stage. It's all about the audience, taking them on a ride. An adventure for them.”
The band's latest creation has seen them delve into the issue of social media reliance and the manipulation it causes to a generation constantly glued to their 'black mirrors'. “It's obviously about our black mirrors and social media, and how it connects us but also disconnects us from the world too… I think people have related to that in a way.
“It came about when Austin brought the riff to me and I read an article on people's reliance on social media and that we are most vulnerable when we look into a black mirror. I was like, 'that's actually a cool concept' and it played on my mind for a few days.
“It's amazing how the subconscious mind works; sometimes words just come out and then you read them back and you're like, 'oh, that's actually what I've been thinking about'.”
Sisters Doll are now at a point in their career where they have developed a strong and exciting live show, and have established a dedicated following of fans – the 'Doll Army' as they call themselves.
“We've set a standard for ourselves where we put everything we've got on the stage, so I think people know they're gonna get their money's worth.
"No matter how many people are in the room, we are gonna give it 110 per cent every time. It's gonna be the same show, same impact, same energy, same outrageous stuff, so it's gonna be a great bunch of shows.”
