The elegant, graceful, sonic beauty of Icelandic ambient post-rock lords Sigur Ros returns to Australia in 2025.
The group – led by the ethereal, falsetto vocals of Jonsi Birgisson – now 30 years deep and comprising 8 studio albums, will partner with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (x2 shows) and Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra for a run of truly special, one-of-a-kind performances next May (they will also play three shows in Sydney with the venue to be announced).A band who evoke unbridled emotive feels (from searing intensity to blissful serenity) blending ambient electronics, orchestral and rock instruments with their own unique language, Hopelandic, this tour will see them pair with a 41-piece orchestra to perform their most intimate and emotionally direct album to date, 2023's 'ÁTTA'.
The album marks a decade since 'Kveikur' and brings together the trio of Jónsi, Georg Holm, and the returning Kjartan Sveinsson.
Recorded with a stripped-back approach and strings laid down at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, the record features hauntingly lush arrangements, including a 32-piece orchestra, yet maintains an emotional focus reflecting the complexities of a post-pandemic world.
"We never meant our music to come with a pre-programmed emotional response. We don't want to tell anyone how to feel and what to take from it."
After their 2022 Australian tour sold out well in advance, local fans are urged to act quickly.
Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 4 October.
